Background: Fighting between rival groups of guerrillas in the mountains of Lebanon has left at least four dead and six wounded. The clashes, involving mortars and small-arms fire, took palace between supporters of the right-wing National Liberal Party ad the leftist Syrian Nationalist Social Party.

SYNOPSIS: On Monday (12 May) two of the leftist guerillas were buried in Beirut with military honours. They'd been killed the day before in the mountainous Baskinta area about 40 kilometres north of the capital.

The dead fighters were saluted by their comrades as the coffins passed by on the way to the cemetery. It was the second time in recent weeks that fighting had broken out between rival political factions in Lebanon.

On May 2nd two people died and TO were wounded near Beirut. But on that occasion the fighting was between the country's two major right-wing parities -- the National Liberal Party and the Falangists. In the latest incident NLP members and Falangists were reported to be fighting alongside one another against the leftists. In Beirut itself fighting was reported on May 7 between rival supporters of Iran and Iraq.
