  • Description

Anti-Concorde demonstrators caused a traffic-jam at New York's Kennedy International airport on Sunday (29 February).

The demonstrators came in two organised groups. The leader one, made up of about 500 cars arrived at the airport in midafternoon and a smaller contingent of vehicles drove around the airport during the early evening.

Demonstrators on foot also picketed the terminal buildings of British Airways and Air France.

However, the traffic congestion caused by the demonstration was not as great as that which occurred last Sunday (22 February) when nearly two thousand cars caused traffic in and around the airport to grind to a complete halt.

The demonstrators want to stop possible flights by the Anglo-French supersonic airliner, Concorde, Into Kennedy airport.

Many airlines called in flight crews eight hours or more ahead of scheduled departure times on Sunday.
