Background: During his five-day official visit to Saudi Arabia, President Suleiman Franjieh of Lebanon attended a reception held in his honour at the Hamra Palace in Jeddah on Wednesday (7th March).

During the reception the President met members of the Saudi Arabian diplomatic corps, including his ambassador, H.E. Rashid Fakhouri.

Immediately after the reception, President Franjieh visited the Jeddah Air Force Base, where he inspected a guard of honour and toured the facilities. He was escorted around the base by Saudi Arabia's Deputy Minister of Defence, Prince Turkey Bin Abdala Aziz.

SYNOPSIS: At Hamra Palace in Saudi Arabia's administrative capital of Jeddah, President Suleiman Franjieh of Lebanon met members of the Saudi Arabian diplomatic corps on Wednesday. Among the diplomats...the President's own Lebanese ambassador, Rashid Fakhouri.

The diplomatic reception was one of President Franjieh's last engagements during his five-day official visit to Saudi Arabia. Immediately afterwards, the Lebanese President left the Palace to visit the nearby Jeddah Air Force Base.

At the Air Base, the President inspected a guard of honour accompanied by Saudi Arabia's Deputy Minister of Defence, Prince Turkey Bin Abdala Aziz. After the review, Prince Aziz escorted the President on a tour of the base.

On the President's return to Beirut on Thursday, a joint statement was issued simultaneously in Beirut and Riyadh calling for the withdrawal of all Israeli forces from territories occupied during the nineteen sixty-seven war.
