THOUSANDS OF GHANIANS PARADED IN ACCRA'S BLACK STAR SQUARE ON MONDAY TO CELEBRATE "FOUNDER'S DAY" -- THE 55TH BIRTHDAY OF PRESIDENT KWAME NKRUMAH. THE DAY WAS DECLARED A PUBLIC HOLIDAY THROUGHOUT THE COUNTRY.

MEMBERS OF THE GHANA WORKERS BRIGADE, THE YOUNG PIONEER MOVEMENT AND OTHER ORGANISATIONS MADE IT A COLOURFUL OCCASION AS THEY DANCED, SANG AND MARCHED THEIR WAY ROUND THE SQUARE. REPRESENTING DR. NKRUMAH, WHO DID NOT APPEAR, WAS MR. OWUSU AFRIYIE, MINISTER OF SOCIAL WELFARE AND COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT.
