  • Description

In Belgium, where the doctors' strike against plans for a new Government health service is in its fourth day, public anger is mounting, with demonstrations, hostile marchers, and even death threats against some of the doctors.

The Government has called in the army medical service to help fill the need for urgent medical facilities. Since the strike began, hospital has been the only place to get medical attention -- so, with the regular hospitals full, the army has been setting up full emergency units -- like this one in a school outside Brussels, with about five-hundred beds.

The doctors claim the new scheme would lower medical standards and reduce their pay, and many of the country's chemists -- have closed and joined in the protest against the Government.
