    THREE BRITISH NATIONALS FREED FROM PRISON IN CUBA BY DR FIDEL CASTRO ARRIVED IN MEXICO CITY LAST MONDAY ABOARD A CUBAN AIRLINE 'BRITANNIA'.

    THEY ARE PETER JOHN LAMBTON, 26, NEPHEW OF THE RACEHORSE TRAINER TEDDY LAMBTON; ROBERT MORTON GEDDES, 30, BRITISH BUSINESSMAN; AND ALFRED LEWIS, 79, OF BRITISH GUIANA. ALL THREE HAD PLEADED NOT GUILTY TO CHARGES BY THE CUBAN REVOLUTIONARY GOVERNMENT. NEGOTIATIONS FOR THEIR RELEASE LASTED FOR MORE THAN A YEAR.

    MR. LAMBTON WAS ARRESTED A FEW MONTHS AFTER DR. CASTRO CAME TO POWER IN 1959, AND WAS SENTENCED TO 25 YEARS' IMPRISONMENT FOR "CRIMES AGAINST THE SOVEREIGNTY OF THE STATE."
    MR. GEDDES, BORN IN PERU, WAS GAOLED FOR 30 YEARS BY A MILITARY TRIBUNAL IN HAVANA IN SEPTEMBER 1961. HE HAD WORKED IN CUBA FOR A SOFT DRINKS FIRM AND WAS ACCUSED OF BEING IN COMMUNICATION WITH AMERICAN INTELLIGENCE ABOUT PLANS FOR THE ABORTIVE "BAY OF PIGS" INVASION.

    MR. LEWIS, A NEGRO, WAS CONDEMNED TO DEATH FOR "CRIMES AGAINST THE STATE". BEFORE HIS ARREST IN 1959 HE OWNED A SMALL HOTEL IN HAVANA, A FAVOURITE HAUNT OF SOLDIERS LOYAL TO THE BATISTA REGIME WHICH WAS OVERTHROWN BY DR. CASTRO.
