  • Description

AS THE MIDDLE EAST WAR "HOTTED UP" AGAIN ON THE EGYPTIAN-ISRAELI FRONTIER YESTERDAY (SATURDAY) PRESIDENT NASSER HAD A BUSY DAY OF TALKS ON CAIRO RECEIVING VISITING DELEGATIONS FROM FRANCE AND INDIA. THE FRENCH -- WHO OFFICIALLY SYMPATHISE WITH THE ARAB CAUSE -- ALSO SIGNED AN AGREEMENT IN CAIRO YESTERDAY ON MUTUAL RELATIONS WITH EGYPT.

PRESIDENT NASSER RECEIVED A VISITING FRENCH PARLIAMENTARY DELEGATION WHICH ARRIVED IN CAIRO ON THURSDAY. NO STATEMENT WAS ISSUED AFTER THE MEETING. THE DELEGATION WILL BE SEEING FOR ITSELF THE EFFECTS OF THE MIDDLE EAST WAR ON EGYPT. THE UNITED NATIONS SECURITY COUNCIL MET TODAY TO CONSIDER CHARGES AND COUNTER CHARGES BY BOTH ISRAEL AND EGYPT OF BREAKING THE CEASE-FIRE FOLLOWING CLASHES AT THE NORTHERN END OF THE SUEZ CANAL.

PRESIDENT NASSER ALSO RECEIVED AN INDIAN DELEGATION YESTERDAY. THE DELEGATION WAS LED BY THE INDIAN TRADE MINISTER MR. DINESH SINGH. ALTHOUGH NO STATEMENT WAS ISSUED AFTER THE TALKS, IT'S BELIEVED THAT THE DELEGATION WAS INVESTIGATING WHAT DIPLOMATIC AND ECONOMIC ASSISTANCE INDIA COULD GIVE EGYPT. THE INDIANS ALSO SUPPORT THE ARAB CAUSE IN THE MIDDLE EAST.
