    THE ROYAL MALAYSIAN NAVY'S FIRST FRIGATE, THE 2,000-TON HANG TUAH ARRIVED AT THE SINGAPORE NAVAL BASE FROM PORTSMOUTH TO A BIG WELCOME BY FAMILIES OF THE OFFICERS AND RATINGS ON DECEMBER 30. THE CAPTAIN OF THE FRIGATE IS COMMANDER M.A. MANN.

    SHE IS THE EX-ROYAL NAVY'S LOCH INSH, RENAMED HANG TUAH AFTER THE GREAT WARRIOR IN MALAYAN HISTORY. SHE IS AN ADDITION TO THE PRESENT ROYAL MALAYSIAN NAVY FLEET WHICH CONSISTS OF TWO SQUADRONS OF MINESWEEPERS AND TWO SQUADRONS OF MODERN PATROL CRAFT.

    THE HANG TUAH HAS A COMPLEMENT OF 10 OFFICERS AND 138 RATINGS, HER ARMAMENT CONSISTS OF TWO 4-INCH GUNS AND ANTI-SUBMARINE AND ANTI-AIRCRAFT WEAPONS. SHE US EQUIPPED WITH THE LATEST RADAR AND COMMUNICATIONS EQUIPMENT AND ALSO HAS A HELICOPTER LANDING PLACE.

    IT WAS A JOYOUS REUNION FOR THE MANY OFFICERS AND RATINGS WITH FAMILIES. THEY HAD AWAITED EAGERLY FOR THIS OCCASION.
