  • Description

    A Polish airliner was
hi-jacked yesterday by a man who threatened to explode two hand-grenades, unless
the aircraft was diverted to Copenhagen.

The airliner, an Antonov-24 of Poland's National Airline, LOT, was flying
between Stettin and Gdansk with 22 passengers on board, when the hi-jacker
    produced the grenades.

He pulled the pin from one and held the other near the pilot's throat demanding
that the 'plane be diverted to Copenhagen.

The hi-jacker, 28-year-old apprentice butcher, Josef Mosczymsky, said he had
planned his flight to the West for three years.

When the aircraft landed at Kastrup Airport, Mosczymsky was overpowered by the
police. He asked for political asylum. He said that conditions in Poland had
become intolerable for him. He will appear in court today charged with offences
connected with the hi-jacking which could bring him several years in jail.

The aircraft and its remaining passengers returned to Gdansk later yesterday
    evening.
