SAN FRANCISCO, Oct. 22 (UPI). - Sen. Edward Kennedy, D-Mass, said Thursday night he was flying to Viet Nam to see for himself the war going on there. He is due here today (Saturday).
Kennedy stopped briefly here before departing on Pan American flight for Saigon. I want to have a look for myself, he told reporters "I am not going any official capacity."
He added, however, that he is chairman of a Senate Committee on Refugees and that he has a personal interest in the refugees of Asia. He said he will spend a week in Viet Nam and two weeks in other parts of the Far East. Asked about recent demonstrations in this country against administration policies in Viet Nam, Kennedy said that "the right to petition is sacred no matter what form - demonstrations or teach-in; so long as they are orderly they can be helpful in stimulating discussion."
