Background: THE SOVIET AMBASSADOR TO WEST GERMANY, SEMYON TSARAPKIN, HAS UNVEILED A MONUMENT TO VLADIMIR LENIN IN MUNICH. THE MONUMENT IS A WALL PLAQUE ON THE HOUSE WHERE LENIN LIVED FOR SEVEN MONTHS IN 1900.

THE PLAQUE WAS DONATED BY A WEST GERMAN AGENCY WHICH SPECIALISES IN BOOKING SOVIET AND EAST EUROPEAN CONCERT ARTISTS FOR WEST EUROPEAN TOURS. THE UNVEILING OF THE PLAQUE BY MR TSARAPKIN MARKS THE END OF A LONG DRAWN OUT DISPUTE ABOUT THE RUSSIAN REVOLUTIONARY.

ANOTHER HOUSE WHERE LENIN ONCE LIVED IS OWNED BY A BREWERY AND THE BREWING COMPANY REFUSED TO ALLOW A PLAQUE TO BE ERECTED FOR POLITICAL REASONS.
