The Palestine Liberation Organisation has officially expressed its gratitude to countries which have shown it support. The message of thanks was delivered by the P.L.O.'s representative in Algeria. It coincided with the United Nations Observance of the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People.
SYNOPSIS: P.L.O. representative Abou El Hassan called a news conference in Algiers to deliver his message. He began by tracing the history of the Palestinian struggle and finished by thanking all countries which support the P.L.O. cause. He said the Organisation was particularly grateful for support from the socialist countries.
Mr Hassan's comments came as the United Nations General Assembly was discussing the Palestinian question including the Camp David accords and the possible inclusion of the P.L.O. in future negotiations.
The Algerian government if firmly opposed to the Camp David agreement which it considers a sell out of the Palestinian cause. On Thursday (28 November) the Algerian Ambassador to the United Nations accused Israel of ignoring the will of the International Community. In Algiers Mr Hassan echoed those views and said support for the PLO was growing.
