    Several members of European Royal families attended and the opening of the second International Conference of the World Wildlife Fund at Kensington Palace Hotel in London today (17 November). Main speaker was Prince Bernhardt of the Netherlands, President of the Wildlife Fund, who announced that 100 new national parks are planned throughout the world.

    His audience included the King & Queen of Greece, the Duke of Edinburgh, and Mr Neil Armstrong, the first man to set foot on the moon.

    A cash gift of over GBP100,000 and two aircraft were presented toady to the fund from independent sources. The fund will also benefit from a charity cabaret, which will be attended by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth, the Duke of Edinburgh, Prince Charles and Princess Anne. Tickets cost up to GBP500.

    Shortly before the private gifts were announced, both Prince Bernhardt and the Duke of Edinburgh had criticised governments and official bodies for what they saw as their meagre financial support to organisations engaged in the preservation of and conservation of wildlife.
