  • Description

The 140 kilometre 'PEACE' race from Warsaw to Lodz was won today by Gustav Adolf Schur, who rode an 'honorary' round.

It was biting cold as the cyclists set out, with Kowalski of Poland taking an early tumble. In the leading break away group were Damen of Holland, Fornaczyk of Poland, and Kolumbiet of Russia. Kapitonov of Russia wins the first Warsaw Lodz stage, with Hermans of Belgium second.

In the second stage, four poles are in the lead but suddenly the Dutchman Piet Damen comes to the fore and wins this stage.

The third stage from Katowice to Wroclaw passes through many Silesian towns, with Krolak, Pancek, and Jankowski all taking a tumble. In Wroclaw Herman leads, followed by Moinceau, Venturelli, Adler, and Britain. Krolak of Poland attacks, pursued by the Frenchman D'Hoker. But it is the East German Gustav Adolf Schur who passes Krolak to win this stage.
