Background: As the ministers summit meeting of the Organisation of African Unity (OAU)in Uganda was debating the future of Israel in the United Nations, some lighter events surrounding the OAU were taking place.

On Thursday (24 July) the Ugandan Government organised an OAU fashion show. It was attended by Ugandan Minsters and local dignitaries. As part of President Idi Amin's plan to smarten up the capital Kampala for the OAU summit, a new cloth was designed. Ugandan models paraded in locally made dresses, all with an African theme.

The following day, as the ministers began their meeting in preparation for the heads of state summit in Monday (28 July), an OAU car rally began. Thousands of people cheered as President Amin arrived to open the 2,800 mile (6,100 kms) rally. Entrants were from Uganda, Kenya, Sudan, Zaire and Rwanda. The rally runs through all those countries.

President Amin flagged off the cars then took a short drive before returning to the OAU meeting. He was accompanied by 19-year-old Miss Sarah Amin, of the Suicide Revolutionary Mechanised Regiment, whom Amin says is his co-driver. In the back seat of his Citreon Maserati were two of Amin's 20 children, Aliga, 4 and Nwanga, 3.

This film includes President Amin speaking at the rally. His remarks on film are transcribed below.
