    French Prime Minister, Jacques Chirac, arrived in the Japanese capital, Tokyo, on Thursday for a three day official visit.

    SYNOPSIS: From the airport, M. Chirac was driven to the Akasaka Palace, the State guest house in central Tokyo. There he was greeted by the Japanese Prime Minister, Takeo Miki and members of his cabinet. M. Chirac is accompanied by his Foreign Minister, Jean Sauvagnargues and Foreign Trade Minister Raymond Barre.

    M. Chirac and Mr. Miki are to have several rounds of talks during which the problem of France's trade deficit with Japan is expected ton arise.

    M. Chirac spent a short time in the guest house, which is modelled on the Palace of Versailles. He then left the Imperial Palace for lunch with Emperor Hirohito, who visited France in 1971.

    After inspecting the white uniformed guard of honour at the Akasaka Palace, M. Chirac was introduced to Foreign Minister, Kiichi Miyazawa and members of the diplomatic corps. M. Chirac is the first French premier to visit Japan since 1964 when George Pompidou spent time there, but former Japanese Prime Minister Kakuei Tanaka visited Paris three years age when he discussed the possibility of a Franco-Japanese uranium development project in Niger, West Africa.
