  • Description

Military observers from 15 NATO countries saw Britain's giant Conqueror Mark Two tank being put through its paces at a demonstration at Bovington, Dorset, yesterday (June 26). The Conqueror 11 is the world's biggest tank - weighing 65 tons. Its speed is 21 miles an hour.

Also demonstrated was the world's biggest military bridgelayer. It has a 45 foot long span.

Aim of the demonstration, which was watched by British and overseas "top brass", was to show the capabilities and fire power of the Royal Armounred Corps' most up-to-date fighting vehicles.

On Gallows Hill at Bovington Heath, where the show took place, huge tanks rumbled up sheer slopes and into miniature ravines. There was also an impressive gunnery demonstration, at Lulworth, Dorset.
