  • Description

The British Foreign Secretary, Sir Alec Douglas-Home, and the Premier of The People's Republic of China, on Wednesday (1 November) discussed world affairs for two-and-a-half hours.

The meeting took place in Peking's Great Hall of the People on the eve of Sir Alec's departure from China at the end of a five day visit.

Earlier, Sir Alec visited the Great Wall of China and walked further along it than had either President Nixon or Japanese Premier, Kakuei Tanaka.

On Thursday, Sir Alec ended his trip to China and travelled to Hong Kong, where he was to spend a day.

But before leaving Peking, he told a news conference that the ice in Sino-British relations had been broken before his visit, and "now the water to warm and we are swimming in it." The visit apparently ??? the s???l on a new and relaxed relationship between the two countries...at loggerhead only five years ago.
