    On the 2nd of December A.A. Gromyko, the Foreign Minister of the USSR, and Mikhail Stewart, the British Foreign Secretary, on behalf of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR and Her Majesty the Queen of Great Britain signed a consular Convention between the USSR and Great Britain.

    V.A. Kirillin, Deputy Chairman of the USSR Council of Ministers, M.P. Georgadze, secretary of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR, V.V. Matskevich and E.A. Fursteva, USSR Ministers, S.K. Romanovsky, chairman of the State Committee of the USSR Council of Ministers for Cultural Relations with Foreign Countries, and other officials were present at the signing from the Soviet side.

    Lord Chalfont, the Minister of State for Foreign Affaires, Sir Paul Gore-Boot, the permanent deputy Minster of Foreign Affaires, Sir Jeffry Harrison, the Ambassador of Great Britain in the USSR and other officials of British Foreign Ministry, were present at the signing from the British side.

    The Convention is to be ratified and will come into force after the exchange of the Instruments of Ratification which will take place in London.

    A.A. Gromyko and Mikhail Stewart exchanged speeches at the signing of the convention.
