    PARADES OF SCHOOLCHILDREN AND VOLUNTARY ORGANISATIONS WERE HELD THROUGHOUT GHANA LAST WEDNESDAY (6 MARCH) TO MARK THE COUNTRY'S ELEVENTH ANNIVERSARY OF INDEPENDENCE.

    IN ACCRA MORE THAN TWO THOUSANDS CHILDREN TOOK PART IN A PARADE IN THE CITY'S BLACK STAR SQUARE. THERE TO TAKE THE SALUTE WAS MR. B.A. YAKUBU, DEPUTY COMMISSIONER OF POLICE AND MEMBER OF THE GOVERNING NATIONAL LIBERATION COUNCIL (N.L.C.).

    IN HIS ADDRESS MR. YAKUBU TOLD THE CHILDREN THAT THE FUTURE OF GHANA WOULD BE DETERMINED LARGELY BY THE SORT OF MEN AND WOMEN THEY GREW UP TO BE.

    MRS. MILDRED ANKRAH, WIFE OF LIEUTENANT-GENERAL ANKRAH, CHAIRMAN OF THE N.L.C. HELD A CHILDREN'S PARTY AT THEIR OFFICIAL RESIDENCE IN OSU. SHE, AND LATER HER HUSBAND, HELPED TO DISTRIBUTE GIFTS TO THE CHILDREN.
