ON PART OF THE TRIP, IN HIS YACHT GYPSY MOTH IV, CHICHESTER FACES THE HAZARD OF CAPE HORN -- THE SOUTHERN TIP OF SOUTH AMERICA. ON THE EVE OF HIS DEPARTURE, CHICHESTER TOLD A PRESS CONFERENCE IN SYDNEY ON FRIDAY THAT ANY FORECASTS ABOUT THE JOURNEY WOULD BE "TEMPTING THE GODS".

    CHICHESTER LEFT SYDNEY TODAY (SUNDAY) ACCOMPANIED BY A FLEET OF SMALL BOATS FILLED WITH WELL-WISHERS. AND ALREADY HE IS RUNNING AHEAD OF GALES WHICH WEATHER EXPERTS FORECAST OFF SOUTHERN AUSTRALIA.

    DURING HIS JOURNEY ROUND CAPE HORN, CHICHESTER CAN EXPECT TO MEET SOME OF THE WORST SEAS IN THE WORLD. BUT BEFORE LEAVING, HE SAID HE HAD FULLY RECOVERED FROM THE FIRST PART OF HIS JOURNEY, FROM ENGLAND TO AUSTRALIA.
