    SYNOPSIS: A WAVE OF ANTI-AMERICANISM IN TURKEY IN THE WAKE OF UNITED STATE EFFORTS TO RESTRAIN THE TURKISH GOVERNMENT FROM FURTHER IMMEDIATE ACTION AGAINST CYPRUS. YESTERDAY (SUNDAY) A HUGE CROWD OF DEMONSTRATORS MARCHED THROUGH ANKARA TO THE UNITED STATES EMBASSY. THEY CARRIED BANNERS AND SHOUTED SLOGANS SUCH AS "GO HOME, DEGENERATE IMPERIALISTS", AND "KILLERS OF KENNEDY, YOU CAN'T KILL THE TURKEYS."
    THE DEMONSTRATION WAS ONE IN A SERIES OF INCIDENT DURING A WEEKEND OF PROTEST AGAINST FOREIGN INTERFERENCE IN THE CYPRUS SITUATION. AT THE IZMIR INTERNATIONAL FAIR STONES DAMAGED A NUMBER OF THE STANDS WHILE THROUGHOUT THE COUNTRY DEMONSTRATIONS AGAINST BRITAIN, THE UNITED STATES, THE SOVIET UNION AND THE UNITED ARAB REPUBLIC CONTINUED.

    A HEAVY GUARD OF POLICE AND SOLDIERS KEPT ORDER DURING THE ANKARA DEMONSTRATION AND IT PASSED OFF WITHOUT SERIOUS INCIDENT.

    FIRE ENGINES WERE BROUGHT TO THE SCENE AS SOON AS THE DEMONSTRATORS BEGAN THEIR PROTEST. IN ANOTHER DEMONSTRATION AT IZMIR, FIRE ENGINES USED WATER HOSES TO BREAK UP A CROWD.

    AN APPEAL FOR CALM LAST NIGHT (SUNDAY) CAME FROM THE TURKISH PRIME MINISTER, MR. INONU. HE SAID IN A NATION-WIDE BROADCAST, "TURKEY IS A DEMOCRACY, AND THE PEOPLE HAVE THE RIGHT TO EXPRESS THEIR FEELINGS. BUT IN DOING SO, THEY MUST OBSERVE THE LIMITS OF THE LAW."
