  • Description

The National Assembly of Turkey met last Friday (2 April) for the first time since the formation of the new government. A majority of the 25-man cabinet chosen by the new Prime Minister, Dr. Nihat Erim, are non-parliamentary experts brought in to implement new programmes. In a 50-minute address, the Prime Minister presented his government's programme to Parliament.

The new government replaces the government of Mr. Suleyman Demirel, ousted after almost six years when the armed forces threatened to take over the country unless a strong new administration was formed.
