Background: Family quarrels between the heirs of the deceased Mr. Oirbans from Venlo, made it possible for the young art connoisseur Mr. Lommen from Venlo to a painting from the 17th Century, for which he paid GBP46.

It is any case already made certain that this painting, representing the Beheading of John the Baptist, is original from the 17th Century.

When they started cleaning the painting in a scientifical way the very exciting discovery was made that it was quite possible that the painting in question was a Rubens.

During the examinations it is already proved to be certain that details and the colours used by Rubens, are present.

The head of John the Baptist is itself portrait of Rubens while the woman's figure represents his wife.

Especially the figure of the headsman indicates the style of Rubens. The lucky Mr. Lommen who paid GBP46. for it, immediately had an offer of GBP6.000, but he prefers to take the risk and wait for the final decision, and perhaps of a half million.

Managers of musea from all over Europa have already won inquiries about the painting.

NO WONDER HE TREASURES HIS NEW PURCHASES AND CANT GET ENOUGH LOOKING AT IT......
