  • Description

With military bands playing brisk, young-spirited military tunes, and with the ceremonial parading of national and party flags and banners, the US Republican Party's Convention opened in Chicago Amphitheater, Chicago, July 25.

The opening day was emphatically a day for spectacle and music - music of very different kinds. After the official oath-taking ceremony was through, the National Anthem was sung by noted singer Gene Archer.

After that, the Convention began to get down to its task of choosing the Presidential candidate as the Party's National Chairman Thurston Morton took charge of proceedings.
