  • Description

INTRODUCTION: The Yugoslav ski resort of Planica has been staging its end-of-season ski-jumping contests. The highlight of the gathering was a near-world-record jump of 172 metres (188 yards) by Reinhold Bachler of Austria.

SYNOPSIS: Janez Desmar of Yugoslavia also attempted to break the world record, but fell short.

Reinhold's attempt missed the record by a mere four metres (4.3 yard)
But his efforts were not entirely in vain -- setting a course record for Planica. Austria's Tom Innauer holds the world title.

During the actual competitions, on a shortened run according to international rules, Bogdan Norcic of Yugoslavia made Saturday's best jumps at 164 metres (179 yards).

Norcic's jumps earned him first place in the second series.

Dietrich kampf of East Germany, who took third in the first series, failed the second series completely.

Czechoslovakia's Ladislav Jirasko took second place with 161 metres(176 yards).

Third went to Thomas Meisinger of East Germany with 156 metres.

Austria's Bachler again....not doing so well in the competition jumping, and failing to get a place.

So at the end of the day it was home champion Norcic who walked off with the second series trophy.
