Background: SPAIN WENT DOWN THREE NIL TO THE REST OF THE WORLD IN A BENEFIT MATCH IN MADRID LAST NIGHT (WEDNESDAY). THE MATCH WAS PLAYED ON BEHALF OF RICARDO ZOMORA, AT ONE TIME ONE OF THE WORLD'S GREATEST GOALKEEPERS. HE PLAYED FOR SPAIN 46 TIMES BETWEEN THE 1920'S AND 1930'S.

THE MATCH, AS WELL AS A BENEFIT GAME, WAS A WARM UP FOR THE SPANISH TEAM WHO MEET CZECHOSLOVAKIA AT THE WEEKEND IN THE NATIONS CUP CONTEST.

THE FIRST GOAL OF THE MATCH CAME ONLY A SHORT TIME AFTER THE START WHEN MAZZOLA, OF ITALY SHOT A FAST BALL INTO THE SPANISH NET. THE SPANISH KEEPER IRIBAR HAD NO CHANCE OF STOPPING IT.

SHORTLY AFTERWARDS EUSEBIO, THE BEST PLAYER OF THE MATCH, RECEIVED THUNDEROUS CHEERING AS HE DELICATELY MANOEUVRED HIS WAY TOWARDS THE GOAL, AND PLUMMETED A BALL PAST IRIBAR FROM TEN YARDS (METRES) OUT.

EUSEBIO LATER HAD TO RETIRE FROM THE GAME, BUT THE REST OF THE WORLD SEEMED IN NO DANGER AS THEY CONTINUED TO KEEP THE GAME AROUND THE SPANISH GOAL MOUTH.

THE THIRD GOAL CAME FROM GOYVAERTS IN THE 88TH MINUTE. GOYVAERTS WAS THE SUBSTITUTE FOR EUSEBIO, AND THE YOUNG BELGIAN MET THE CHALLENGE.
