  • Description

WORK ON CAMBODIA'S 700-METRES BRIDGE IS BEING SLOWED DOWN BECAUSE OF THE SHORTAGE OF CABLES FOR ELECTRICAL WIRING. THE BRIDGE IS SAID TO BE THE LONGEST IN SOUTH-EAST ASIA.

A TEAM OF JAPANESE CONSTRUCTION ENGINEERS FROM OSAKA IS BUILDING THE BRIDGE FOR THE CAMBODIAN GOVERNMENT. CONSTRUCTION WORK STARTED ON AUGUST 15, 1960. IT WAS SCHEDULED TO BE COMPLETED BY FEBRUARY, 1964.

THE BRIDGE, WHEN COMPLETED, WILL CONNECT PHNOM P THE CAMBODIAN CAPITAL WITH CHRUI CHANGVAR, A FISHING VILLAGE.

THE INABILITY OF THE CAMBODIAN GOVERNMENT TO SUPPLY 20,000-METRES OF CABLE WAS ATTRIBUTED TO PRINCE NOROD SHRAVOUK'S TERMINATION OF UNITED STATES AID.
