On the East Coast of Malaya, wasted by the turbulent South China Sea, the life of a fishing village revolves around the decisions of one man...the local 'wizard' who acts as a combined meteorological and radar station.
This mean makes it his profession to forecast the weather. Without this nod the fisherfolk dare not go out fishing even on days considered free in their own opinion. The 'wizard' claims to get 20-minutes lead on an approaching storm, once on the sea.
The 'wizard', after setting the time for fishing, accompanies the fishermen to act as their radar to locate fishing grounds. He claims to spot the best ground by "the-noise-the-fishes-make", and says sharks never bother him as he can spot them five miles away.
Believable or not, the fishing expert has built quite a reputation among his fellowmen for his skill.
Even the Government of Malaya recognizes his contribution to the fishing industry of the Eastern Coastal States of Kelantan and Trengganu, and indirectly supports the boast of the fishing 'wizard' that his services have greatly reduced the loss of lives.
