Mr Pham is in Peking for top-level talks. It's the first visit by a North Vietnamese government leader since President Nixon of the United States announced he would visit the People's Republic of China.....a visit over which Hanoi had expressed misgivings. Escorted by Mr Chou En-lai, the visitors were driven in a motorcade from the airport and through streets lined with thousands of waving Chinese. On Saturday evening the delegation attended a special banquet in the Great Hall of the People, where they were toasted by Premier Chou En-lai who pledged support and assistance for all Indo-Chinese people opposing the Americans. In return Pham Van Dong praised both China and the Soviet Union for their support.
