    Gareth Edwards, the most capped player in Welsh rugby history, added another trophy to his collection in London on Thursday (28 September). Edwards, who retired recently as a player, was awarded the Golden Boot - a real rugby boot dipped in gold. This is the first time a rugby player has received this award. Chris Ray of the British broadcasting Corporation, as Master of Ceremonies, introduced Gareth Edwards.

    SYNOPSIS: Similar Golden Boots were awarded to players from France, Ireland, England and Scotland, but Gareth Edwards was the most popular choice.

    The awards, which were jointly sponsored by a sports-equipment firm and rugby newspaper, were decided by readers' votes.
