Background: Rome has two local football teams: one bears the name of the eternal city "Roma" and the other is the "Lazio" team, named after the Region. Needless to say both teams have their "out and out supporters or fans. These teams during the season play against each other twice. Both times Rome becomes a sort of battle ground. At the stadium where the games take place opposing fans cheer wildly and often invade the field to take something they don't like out on the referee or an opposing player. More often than anything else they take sit out on each other. The Police have a fine time trying keep order.
Bars and Cafe's all over the city are filled with supporters of these clubs and the strangest kinds of bets are taken. This year Mr. Privitara a painter of some renown and fan of the "Roma" team bet with Mr. Ferdinandi, the head of a well known Hatelier in this city and supporter of the "Lazio" athletic club that his favourite team would smear the opposing one. Mr. Ferinandi of course took up the bet and it was decided that the loser would parade along Via Veneto (Rome's most fashionable street) leading a few cows dressed in the colours of his steam.
It is now "history" that the "Lazio" bet the "Roma" and at this morning Mr. Privitara paid off leading cows along The poor animals who had nothing to do with the affair were dressed in yellow and red costumes: the colours of the losing "Rome" team.
Everyone seemed to enjoy the affair very much.
At the last moment police did not allow the parade to take place along Via Renato and loser Mr. Privitara (Antonio is his first name) the one wearing the sash (yellow and red of course) and bearing a lance led his cows as far as Porta Pinciana (Villa Borghase Gardens). Via Veneto begins a few meters further on.
After the bet was paid off Mr. Vicenzo Ferdinandi shook hands with Mr. Privitara and declared he'd let bygones be bygones (until the next time).
