    A HAND GRENADE WHICH EXPLODED JUST AFTER PRESIDENT NKRUMAH LEFT A RALLY IN ACCRA THIS WEEK KILLED FOUR PEOPLE AND INJURED 85 OTHERS.THE MINISTRY OF THE INTERIOR SAID THE GRENADE WAS BELIEVED TO BE OF FRENCH ORIGIN.THE RALLY WAS HELD IN THE VAST SPORTS STADIUM.

    IT WAS HELD TO MARK THE 13TH ANNIVERSARY OF "POSITIVE ACTION", WHICH PAVED THE WAY FOR GHANA'S INDEPENDENCE.THE RALLY WAS STAGED BY THE RULING CONVENTION PEOPLE'S PARTY.AT THE RALLY, PRESIDENT NKRUMAH AND SEVERAL LEADING MINISTERS RECEIVED "PRISON GRADUATE" CAPS FROM THE JUSTICE MINISTER, MR.OFORI ATTA.ALL THE WEARERS HAVE AT SOME TIME BEEN DEPRIVED OF THEIR LIBERTIES DURING THE STRUGGLE FOR INDEPENDENCE.

    MINISTERS, MARKET WOMEN, EX-SERVICEMEN AND MEMBERS OF VARIOUS ORGANISATIONS MARCHED PAST THE PRESIDENT WITH BANNERS.THESE PROCLAIMED "NKRUMAH IS GHANA", "FORWARD TO SOCIAL AND ECONOMIC EMANCIPATION" AND OTHER SUCH PHRASES AS "OSAGYEFO IS OUR MOSES LEADING US TO PARADISE".

    THE PRESIDENT TOLD THE CROWD - ESTIMATED AT 25,000 PEOPLE - THAT HE EXPECTED ALL GHANAIANS TO "STAND SHOULDER TO SHOULDER TO BRING TO A SUCCESSFUL CONCLUSION THE SECOND PHASE OF OUR REVOLUTION - THE CONSTRUCTION OF A SOCIALIST GHANA AND A FREE AND UNITED AFRICA".PRESIDENT NKRUMAH SPENT NEARLY AN HOUR AT THE RALLY.HE HAD JUST LEFT WHEN THE GRENADE WAS THROWN INTO THE CROWD.
