TRANSCRIPT: (SEQ. 2): CRAIG: "WITHIN THE NEXT EIGHT OR 10 WEEKS THERE WILL BE FROM THE IRISH REPUBLICAN ARMY ORGANISATION, A NEW PHASE OF VIOLENCE AGAINST OUR COUNTRY, WHICH WILL ATTEMPT TO GIVE THE IMPRESSION OF A GENERAL UPRISING. THE FIRST THING I WOULD DO WAS TO RESTORE TO THE ROYAL ULSTER CONSTABULARY AN EFFECTIVE SECURITY ROLE. THERE IS NO OTHER WAY. OUR GOVERNMENT, IN A MOMENT OF PANIC THROUGH THE LACK OF UNDERSTANDING OF WHAT WAS HAPPENING, THROUGH THE LACK OF MAKING PREPARATION FOR IT, FAILED TO CONTROL THE SITUATION IN AUGUST, 1969. AND THEY WENT TO LONDON BEHIND THE BACKS OF OUR PARLIAMENT, BEHIND THE BACKS OF THE UNIONIST PARTY, BEHIND THE BACKS OF THE PEOPLE OF ULSTER, AND THEY SURRENDERED EFFECTIVELY THEIR AUTHORITY TO LOOK AFTER OUR INTERNAL SECURITY. UNLESS HE IS PREPARED TO TAKE A COMPLETELY NEW POLICY INITIATIVE, HE HAS NO CHANCE OF CONTAINING WHAT IS GOING TO HAPPEN AND HE HAS CERTAINLY NO CHANCE OF BETTING THE CONFIDENCE OF THE ORDINARY RANK AND FILE UNIONIST".

CRAIG, SPEAKING TO A LARGE GATHERING OF HIS CONSTITUENTS AT LISBURN, WARNED OF WHAT, IN HIS OPINION, WERE BIG TROUBLES AHEAD.

MR. CRAIG ADVOCATES STRONG ARM TACTICS AGAINST THE CATHOLIC GHETTOS IN WHICH IRISH REPUBLICAN ARMY MEN HAVE THEIR BASES. HIS AGGRESSIVE VIEWS ARE SHARED BY A LARGE NUMBER OF PROTESTANT ACTION GROUPS. MR. CRAIG SHRUGGED OFF IS DEFEAT. BUT HE MADE CLEAR THAT HE WAS READY AND WAITING IF THE NEW PRIME MINISTER SHOULD BE TOPPLED FROM OFFICE. MR. CRAIG WARNED THAT IT WOULD BE UNWISE TO IGNORE THE VIEWS HE HOLDS WHICH ARE SHARED BY THE " MAJORITY OF GRASSROOTS MEMBERS" OF THE UNIONIST PARTY.

MR. CRAIG TOLD A MEETING OF SOME OF HIS CONSTITUENTS:
