    A top European Economic Commission official has arrived in Brazzaville for talks on further economic aid to the Congo.

    SYNOPSIS: The E.E.C.'s Commissioner for Development Aid, Mr Claude Cheyson, was met at Brazzaville's airport by the Congo's Minister for Industry, Mr Saturnim Okabe. Most of Mr Cheyson's president, Colonel Joachim Yhombi-Opango. The Congo, a former French colony, has retained close economic links with France, and subsequently with the European Economic Community. One topic the two men were thought likely to discuss was the effect on the country's economy of another major offshore oil find. It's the third such field, and exploitation of the latest, around the end of this year, will increase the Congo's potential for diversification and economic independence.

    The Congo's small population and large resources have made it fairly prosperous by African standards. but there are still economic problems, including a large trade deficit which has increased Congolese dependence on overseas aid.
