    ABOUT THREE-THOUSAND MEMBERS OF THE PHILIPPINE GOVERNMENT EMPLOYEES ASSOCIATION HELD A MASS RALLY IN MANILA ON THURSDAY (20 FEBRUARY) IN PROTEST AT GOVERNMENT REFUSAL TO CONSIDER THEIR WAVE DEMANDS. PHILIPPINE PRESIDENT MARCOS ADDRESSED THE RALLY, AND PROMISED THE WORKERS A PAY INCREASE OF FIVE PER CENT FROM MARCH THE FIRST.

    THE RALLY STARTED IN FRONT OF THE CONGRESS BUILDING IN MANILA, WHEN THE ASSOCIATION MEMBERS WERE ADDRESSED BY THEIR PRESIDENT, MR. THOMAS CABRIAS. FROM THE CONGRESS BUILDING THEY MARCHED TO THE MALACANANG PALACE, WHERE PRESIDENT MARCOS APPEARED AND PROMISED THEM AN INCREASE IN WAGES. HE ALSO TOLD THEM HE WAS SETTING UP A SPECIAL COMMITTED, ON WHICH THE ASSOCIATION WOULD BE REPRESENTED, TO DISCUSS FURTHER DEMANDS.

    FROM THE PALACE, THE RALLY MOVED TO THE PLAZA MIRANDA WHERE OTHER ASSOCIATION OFFICIALS ADDRESSED THE PROTESTORS.
