    An asbestos factory in Kenya now under construction, is expected to produce at least 6,000 tons per year initially. Later the capacity is expected to rise to 18,000 tons when 24 hour shifts begin.

    The Kenya Asbestos Company which was building the factory, at Bamburi, near Mombasa intends to export any surplus over local needs.

    The GBP 600,000 ($240,000) project is a joint development involving a Swiss firm, Cementis AG, the Bamburi Portland Cement Company and the Development Finance Company of Kenya.
