Background: Premier Raymond Barre of the Republic of France, Mme. Barre and their party arrived in Peking on January 19th for an official visit to China.
Welcoming the distinguished French guests at the airport were Hua Kuo-feng, Chairman of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China and Premier of the State Council, vice-Premiers Teng Hsiao-ping and Ku Mu, Foreign Minister Huang Hua and Minister of Foreign Trade Li Chiang.
Warmly shaking hands with Premier Barre, Chairman Hua said: "A welcome to you."
Premier Barre Said: "I am very glad to be here on a visit to China. I have brought you the salute of the Republic of France."
Accompanying Premier Barre on the visit are Minister of Foreign Affairs Louis De Guiringaud, Minister of Foreign Trade Andre Rossi and his wife.
A grand welcoming ceremony was held at the Peking airport.
Accompanied by Chairman Hua, Premier Barre reviewed a guard of honour composed of men of the ground, naval and airforces of the Chinese People's Liberation Army.
Also present at the airport were Deputy Chief of General Staff of the Chinese People's Liberation Army Chang Ai-ping, Vice-Foreign Minister Liu Chen-hua and Chinese Ambassador to France Han Ke-hua.
French Ambassador to China C. Arnaud and his wife were also on hand.
