Background: The visiting Premier of Poland, Mr. Piotr Jaroszewics, met the Indian President, Mr. V.V. Giri, and Prime Minister Indira Gandhi on Thursday (II Jan.).

Earlier, he placed a wreath on the memorial to Mahatma Gandhi.

Mr. Jaroszewicz and his delegation also attended high level talks with Indian Cabinet Ministers and officials.

Later, it was announced that the two countries had signed a three year trade protocol and an agreement covering extensive economic co-operation.

The protocol envisages that trade turnover between India and Poland will total 1,300-million rupees (72-million Sterling) in 1973 and 2,000 million rupees (III million Sterling) by 1980.

SYNOPSIS: In Delhi, the Indian capital, on Thursday, a Polish delegation paid a visit to the Raj Ghat memorial.

The delegation was led by the Polish Premier, Mr. Piotr Jaroszewicz, who, with his wife, laid a special wreath on the memorial of Mahatma Gandhi.

Then all observed a minute of silence in memory of the great Indian leader.

That was the first function of the day and later the Polish delegation went to the Presidential residence.

Here Mr. Jaroszewicz and the other delegates met the Indian President, Mr. V.V. Giri.

It was only a courtesy call...an occasion for brief and friendly conversation before getting down to the real business of the day....
In the south block of the Government Secretariat building they had a meeting with the Indian Prime Minister, Mrs. Indira Gandhi, and a series of conferences with Cabinet Ministers and other officials.

It was later announced that India and Poland had signed a three year trade protocol and an agreement covering extensive economic co-operation.

It's envisaged that trade between India and Poland will be worth the equivalent of 72-million pounds Sterling this year....rising to III-million by nineteen-eighty. Most of the increase will come from new lines of imports and exports. Poland will buy more engineering and consumer goods from India and supply India with more fertilisers, steel products and heavy machinery.
