    A seminar on the access and exploitation of the sea around African coasts opened in Yaounde, Cameroun on Tuesday (20 June). The ten-day regional meeting on the law and resources of the sea was opened by Cameroun's Minister of Transport, M. Vincent Efon.

    Experts from seventeen countries are taking part in the seminar organised jointly by the Cameroun government and the U.S.-based Carnegie Trust for International Peace.

    The participating African countries are Dahomey, Cameroun, Ethiopia, Equatorial Guinea, Egypt, Ghana, Kenya, the Ivory Coast, Togo, Tunisia, Mauritius, Senegal, Algeria, Sierre Leone, the Sudan, Tanzania and Guinsa.

    A number of countries have sent observers to the conference, including Brazil, Canada, Israel, Italy, the Soviet Union, Switzerland and the United States. Two African organisations have also sent representatives to this conference; the Organisation of African Unity and the African, Malagasy and Mauritian Common Organisation.
