  • Description

Bodies of victims and pieces of wreckage were still being retrieved as boats and helicopters searched Guanabara Bay, Rio de Janeiro, June 27 - two days after a Brazilian airline's Convair crashed as it came in to land in fog and rain.

The plane's radio died before the disaster, for which airline officials could give on cause. On board were 41 passengers and 5 crew, flying in from Brasilia, - all of them were killed. Bodies retrieved in early stages of the search could not be recognised.

Last February, during President Eisenhower's visit, 61 people were killed when a US Navy plane collided - over the same bay - with another Brazilian airliner.
