    Elections campaigns are now gaining momentum in India's Third General Elections In Kerala, where the Communists came to power through ballot for the first time in 1957, the Communists have formed a seven party UNITED LEFT FRONT, to grab power. Communists had emerged as the largest party during the mid term elections in 1965, but failed to form a government. The Congress party whose rule has remained unchallenged at the Centre and in other states, has started house to house campaign. Mrs. Gandhi is due to campaign in the State on 13th and 14th of January.

    Kerala has the highest standard of literacy, 50% can read and write. The social life of Kerala is caste ridden. And this effects the political commitments of the people of Kerala. If high castes vote Congress, the low castes vote Red. Nearly 25% of the Kerala people are Christians..Catholics.

    Density of population in Kerala is amongst the highest in the world. People of Kerala live largely upon agricultural and fishery products. Abundance of palm tress has given them coir industry, and sea coast the fishing. Other important items of agricultural production are coffee, tea, rubber and cashew nuts that exported all over the world.
