  • Description

The Guards were in disgrace. 'Rotters...Spoil-sports' yelled the small boys of Windsor. For someone had set their giant bonfire alight..and the 'some-one', they claimed, were members of the Guards, stationed nearby.

The kids had spent weeks preparing for November 5th-and within a few minutes the fire was blazing away --more than a week too early.

The small boys of Windsor made life unbearable for the troops; cat-calling, writing anti-guards slogans on the walls of their barracks, until finally, the officers decided that a diplomatic exercise was inevitable.

Accordingly they built a giant bonfire - bigger and better by far than the one which had been destroyed. And they invited all the 'Operation bonfire' to perfection; they even had singer Diane Todd to light it. All's well again in Windsor.
