    Egyptian President Anwar Sadat and Singapore's Prime Minister Lee Kuan Yew discussed world problems and the strengthening of bilateral relations when they met in Cairo, Egypt, on Saturday (20 September).

    Middle-East developments and promoting economic co-operation between the two countries were also among the subjects discussed.

    The meeting between the two leaders was the first during Mr. Lee's visit to Egypt. The singapore leader is the official guest of Egyptian Premier Mamdouh Salem.

    Mr. Lee and Premier Salem have already held preliminary discussions, and Mr. Lee has also met with Dr. Rifaat Mahgoub, First Secretary of the policy-making Central Committee of the Arab Socialist Union.

    During his talks with all Egyptian officials Prime Minister Lee has praised Egypt's Middle-East policy .. particularly the decision to re-open the Suez Canal.

    Singapore intends to hold a cultural week in Cairo soon to highlight the cultural and Islamic links between the two countries. Singapore has a large Moslem minority in its two million population.

    The two countries established diplomatic relations in 1969, and co-operation has been developing smoothly ever since.
