    REPORTER: "Sir, you took everybody by surprise by getting married. How sudden was it really?"

    KISSINGER: "We'd been planning it for several weeks."

    REPORTER: "You were very famous for your ...(LAUGHTER)...acquaintances, female acquaintances. And do you believe that this was more of a campaign, a publicity campaign, rather than true?"

    KISSINGER: "I could'nt possibly attempt to...a number of other bachelors are very grateful to me this week."

    REPORTER: "Mr. Secretary, President Pompidou of France has now died."

    KISSINGER: "Yes."

    REPORTER: "Would you care to comment on that and your association (indistinct)..."

    KISSINGER: "Well I knew President Pompidou, and I respected him greatly. whatever personal differences existed between the United States and France, We recognised him as a friend of the United States and as an ally. And I think back to my meetings with him with the memory of heaving dealt with a very densiderable peroon."

    Background: Dr. Henry Kissinger, the newly-married United States Secretary of State, gave an impromptu interview to reporters on the third day of his honeymoon in Acapulco, Mexico. Seated beside him on the verandah of the villa in which they are staying, was his wife -- the former Nancy Majinnes.

    They were married, suddenly, at Arlington, Virginia, on 30 march. Immediately afterwards they flew to Acapulco for their honeymoon. Although Dr. Kissinger and Miss Maginnes and been frequent companions for some time, their marriage took most people by surprise.

    Dr. Kissinger is 51. He was divorced in 1964 from his first wife after fifteen years of marriage. From his first marriage he has two children Elizabeth (15) and David (12). Both of them were present at the wedding.

    Before her marriage, Miss Maginnes worked for Nelson Rockefeller, the former Governor of New York, who is now head of The Committee for Choices for Americans, specialising in international affairs and economics.

    During the interview, Dr. Kissinger was asked for his reactions to the recent death of President Pompidou. His reply is contained in the following transcript of the interview which is included on film.
