In Rotterdam on Tuesday night (23 Jan) professional cyclists went ???ll out to win an international six day race. Teams representing the Netherlands, Belgium, West Germany, France, and Italy took part.
One of the two cyclists making up a team stayed on the track day and night for the entire six days, making it not only a long race, but also a tough one.
Eventual team winners were Duyndam and Pijnen of the Netherlands. They were one lap ahead of the second team -- Merckx and Sercu of Belgium. Third were Fritz and Kemper of West Germany.
SYNOPSIS: Professional racing cyclists battle their way toward the end of a gruelling six day International contest in Rotterdam. With only two cyclists in each team the competitors had a tough time keeping one team member on the track day and night for the entire six days.
The bell signalling the last lap! and twelve teams representing five European countries really put on the pressure. Most strongly represented was the Netherlands with no less than five team taking part.
First across the line, Duyndan and Pijnen of the Netherlands.
The Dutch spectators demonstrated their appreciation of the race, and of their fellow countrymen, - the two winners.
