  • Description

The supersonic jetliner Concorde, wearing the colours of Air France, made a special 5,400-mile (8,690-km) endurance flight from Paris to Dakar and return last Thursday (5 June) to show off its globe-shrinking capabilities to a group of French V.I.P.'s and celebrities and newsmen on board.

The outward leg was covered in 2 hours 45 minutes. After a brief stopover for lunch, with an official Senegalese Government greeting party, they were off again, covering the homeward journey in 2 hours 40 minutes to arrive in time for dinner.

Amongst those on board were Anne Giscard d'Estaing-- daughter of the French President -- actors Alain Delon and Jacques Charron; actresses Mireille Darc and Nicole Courcelle; and singer Charles Trenet.

The official government party at the airport was headed by Information Minister Dr. Daouda Sow.

The Dakar flight was one of a series of endurance test flights for the Anglo-French aircraft. The previous week it was loaded with 70 Brazilian V.I.P.'s for a similar round trip from Paris to Rio de Janeiro.
