Egypt's new foreign Minister Mohammed Kamel visited the West German Chancellor, Helmut Schmidt, for talks in Bonn of Friday (17 February). Mr kamel has been in West Germany since earlier this week (13 February) on a partly private visit, but he has met other top West German politicians.
SYNOPSIS: Mr Kamel and Herr Schmidt met at the West German Chancellery. It was only a few months since Mr Kamel was in the capital as Egypt's Ambassador here. He took over from Ishmail Fahmy who resigned when he heard of President Anwar Sadat's plan to visit Israel.
Mr Kamel's visit to Chancellor Schmidt came only a week after President Sadat was in Bonn to rally support for the Arab cause in the Middle East. The meeting was an opportunity for the two politicians to discuss more fully the latest developments towards peace in the Middle East. Earlier in the week, Mr Kame had talks with West German President Walter Scheel and Foreign Minister Hans-Dietrich Genschler. He will return to Cairo on Monday (20 February).
