  • Description

Visnews filmed, June 24, Indian Prime Minister Nehru at the Congress House and at Government House in Trivandrum during his visit to Kerala to discuss with Government and Opposition leaders, and leaders of non-political organisations, the recent agitation aimed at ousting the Communist Government. Mr. Nehru arrived in Trivandrum June 22, returning to New Delhi June 25.

Following Mr. Nehru's visit Mr. Namboodiripad, Chief Minister, issued a statement agreeing to Mr. Nehru's suggestions for solving the problems facing the Government and Opposition. He agreed to suspend the controversial Education Act, to hold discussions on it and to refer any points of dispute to the Prime Minister. He agreed to examine charges made against the Government, and if agreement could not be reached to submit himself to Mr. Nehru's personal arbitration. And finally he agreed to hold a judicial enquiry into the recent police shootings - but only after normal conditions had been resumed and direct action against the State had been called off. It thus remained to - be seen what would be the next move of the Opposition movement - formed by different political and religious groups.
