    SALE OF THE PERSONAL BELONGINGS OF THE DEPOSED GHANAIAN PRESIDENT, KWAME NKRUMAH, AND THOSE OF ELEVEN OF HIS CABINET MINISTERS BEGAN IN ACCRA ON THURSDAY. THE FIRST AUCTION INVOLVED FURNITURE AND EFFECTS OF THE FORMER MINISTER OF WORKS, MR. E.K. BENSAH.

    THE RULING NATIONAL LIBERATION COUNCIL DECIDED ON SEPTEMBER 18 THAT DR. NKRUMAH AND HIS MINISTERS MUST BE JOINTLY RESPONSIBLE FOR THE REFUND OF THREE MILLION NEW CEDIS (GBP1,500,000 STERLING) WHICH THE STATE LOST IN THE TAKE-OVER TRANSACTION BETWEEN THE FORMER GOVERNMENT, AND MESSRS. A.G. LEVENTIS LIMITED, A GREEK FIRM. THE PUBLIC AUCTION OF MOVEABLE PROPERTY IS THE N.L.C.'S FIRST STEP TO REGAIN THIS SUM.

    THE PROPERTY, INCLUDING THAT OF MR. BENSHAH, WAS CONFISCATED AFTER AN ARMY AND POLICE COUP OVERTHREW THE REGIME IN FEBRUARY LAST YEAR. IT INCLUDES CARS, TELEVISION SETS, RADIOGRAMS, FURNITURE AND PERSONAL EFFECTS.

    AMONG THE DEPOSED MINISTERS WHOSE PROPERTY IS TO BE SOLD ARE MR. KROBO EDUSEI (WHOSE WIFE ONCE CAUSED A SENSATION BY BUYING A GOLDEN BED IN LONDON), MR. KOFI BAAKO, MR. F.D. GOKA, MR. KWAKU BOATENG, AND MP. TAWIA ADAMPIO. THURSDAY'S SALE RAISED ABOUT 2,000 NEW CEDIS (GBP1,000 STERLING).
